Two teenagers taken to hospital after house fire north of Brisbane

Two teenagers have been taken to hospital after escaping from a house fire in Redcliffe, north of Brisbane.

Emergency crews rushed to the Woody Point property just before 1pm after flames broke out inside the home.

Firefighters say working smoke alarms alerted two 19-year-olds to the fire.

“Fortunately the smoke alarms alerted the residents and they got out in time and everybody is safe,” Station Officer Gil Reddiex said.”It was a good result there were no serious injuries today.

“Neighbours tried to fight the flames with garden hoses before firefighters arrived.

Kirra Foulkes told 9News she was worried about the blaze spreading to nearby properties.

“It just went up really quickly,” she said.

“There were really big flames towards the back of the house.”

The two teenagers were taken to hospital in stable conditions suffering from smoke inhalation.

Investigations are underway into what caused the fire.

The house was extensively damaged and will now have to be demolished.
