Fire Detection and Alarm System Upgrade
Client Name: Cameron House
The fire detection and alarm system upgrade involved the installation of fire protection equipment to enhance the building’s safety and compliance with current fire regulations. Given the operational nature of the facility, the project required careful planning and execution to minimize disruptions while ensuring a seamless integration of the new system.
Key Technical Aspects and Project Highlights
- Installation of Addressable Fire Detection and Indicating Equipment (FDCIE)
- A new addressable Fire Detection Control and Indicating Equipment (FDCIE) was installed, complete with a Brigade Occupant Warning System (BOWS).
- The system was programmed and commissioned to ensure full operational readiness and integration with ASE monitoring and connection to QFES.
- Fire Cable Installation
- Fire-rated cabling was installed in conduit through critical areas, including the stairwell to serve the ground, first, and second levels.
- Additional cabling was laid throughout the ground and first floors, with connections made to the pre-existing roughed-in fire cable on level two.
- Smoke and Thermal Detector Installation
- 79 new addressable concealed space smoke detectors with remote indicators were installed.
- An additional 79 new addressable smoke detectors and 23 new addressable thermal detectors were deployed to enhance fire detection capabilities.
- Emergency Warning and Intercommunication System (EWIS) Enhancements
- 92 semi-recessed EWIS speakers and one horn speaker were installed to improve emergency communication throughout the facility.
- Two new fire trip relays and one red visual alarm device were added to further enhance the system’s effectiveness.
- Work Scheduling and Operational Considerations
- All works were completed after hours to minimize disruption to ongoing operations.
- Technician standdowns were accommodated following after-hours work to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Access equipment, including 8ft steps, was utilized for safe and efficient installation.
Outcomes
- The project successfully enhanced the fire detection and alarm capabilities, improving overall building safety and regulatory compliance.
- Careful scheduling and execution ensured minimal operational disruptions.
- The installation of modern, addressable fire detection equipment has significantly increased the facility’s readiness for fire emergencies.
By integrating state-of-the-art fire detection technology with meticulous planning and execution, this project has reinforced the facility’s fire safety infrastructure, ensuring enhanced protection for occupants and assets.
