Fire Protection System Upgrade – Levels 4 & 5

Fire Boar successfully upgraded and reconfigured the fire protection systems on Levels 4 & 5, ensuring compliance with AS1670.4, AS1670 Section 7 & AS2118.1.99. This project involved extensive modifications to the sprinkler system, fire detection, and emergency warning infrastructure to align with new ceiling layouts and mechanical equipment placement.

Technical Achievements:

Sprinkler System Modifications

  • Level 4
    • Relocated fire sprinkler pipework to accommodate mechanical equipment.
    • Installed 131 below-ceiling sprinkler heads and 2 exposed sprinkler heads with wire guards.
    • Removed 97 redundant sprinkler heads, optimizing fire protection efficiency.
  • Level 5
    • Diverted sprinkler pipework for ceiling space adjustments across three areas.
    • Installed a mix of below-ceiling, exposed, high-temperature, and horizontal sidewall sprinkler heads for comprehensive coverage.
    • Removed multiple outdated sprinkler heads, improving system performance.

Fire Detection & Emergency System Enhancements

  • Installed & reconfigured smoke and thermal detection
    • Level 4: Added 14 smoke detectors, removed 12, and installed 1 thermal detector.
    • Level 5: Added 13 smoke detectors, removed 11, and installed 1 thermal detector.
  • Upgraded EWIS speaker system
    • Level 4: Installed 37 flush-mounted EWIS speakers, removing 11 outdated units.
    • Level 5: Installed 23 new EWIS speakers, including surface-mounted and flush-mounted units, while removing 8 redundant speakers.
  • Installed new safety equipment
    • Installed fire extinguishers and fire blankets on both levels for additional protection.
    • Integrated 4 new fire trip relays on Level 5 to improve fire system automation.

Challenges Overcome:

  • Coordination with Mechanical Installations – Adjusted sprinkler layouts to accommodate new ceiling-mounted mechanical equipment.
  • Efficient System Optimization – Removed redundant sprinkler heads, smoke detectors, and EWIS speakers, reducing unnecessary infrastructure while maintaining compliance.
  • Seamless Execution & Programming – Reprogrammed the Fire Indicator Panel (FIP) to integrate the system changes without disrupting existing fire protection functionality.

Deliverables & Compliance:

  • As-installed drawings, Form 12, and O&M manuals provided for full documentation.
  • Fully tested and commissioned fire safety systems ensuring reliability, compliance, and enhanced fire protection.

This project highlights Fire Boar’s expertise in large-scale fire system upgrades, ensuring seamless integration, compliance, and improved safety.
