Bunker Barre Fire System Upgrades
Fire Boar was tasked with making necessary changes to the fire system to ensure compliance with AS1670.4, AS1670 Section 7, and AS2118.1.99. This project involved extensive modifications to the sprinkler and detection systems to meet the updated layout requirements.
Technical Achievements:
- Sprinkler System Modifications:
- Isolated and drained the sprinkler system for necessary upgrades, with recharging upon completion.
- Removed and replaced 65mm main sprinkler pipe in the corridor and under duct sprinkler heads, ensuring compliance with new layout and safety standards.
- Installed new sprinkler ranges and heads in key areas including the dining (bunker) area, bar area, and cold rooms to improve fire suppression coverage.
- Relocated 14 exposed sprinkler heads to concealed spaces in the bar area to accommodate a new lowered ceiling layout.
- Installed high-temperature sprinkler heads in cold storage areas to meet specific temperature requirements.
- Fire Detection and EWIS Adjustments:
- Isolated and re-programmed the fire detection system to integrate with the updated sprinkler network.
- Relocated 8 detectors and 2 EWIS speakers to accommodate the lowered ceiling in the bar area.
- Installed new smoke detectors and horn speakers in critical areas like the cellar and cold rooms to improve fire alert systems.
- Specialized Installations:
- Installed dry freezer sprinkler heads in cold rooms, ensuring that the system meets the specific needs of temperature-controlled areas.
- Relocated sprinkler test drains from inside the restaurant to the outside, with careful sealing of core penetrations for fire safety.
Difficulties Overcome:
- Acoustic Spray Coordination: The removal and repositioning of existing services in the exposed ceiling areas to allow for acoustic spray required precise planning to avoid conflicts with the fire system upgrades.
- Cold Room Installations: The installation of fire protection in cold rooms and freezers required the use of specialized dry sprinkler heads and high-temperature equipment to function efficiently under low-temperature conditions.
- Relocation of Equipment: The challenges of relocating sprinkler heads, detectors, and speakers in the bar and cellar areas to align with the new ceiling layouts were overcome with careful coordination and minimal disruption to the ongoing operations.
Deliverables:
- Re-programming of the FIP (Fire Indicator Panel) to accommodate changes to the addressable system.
- Provision of as-installed drawings, Form 12, and O+M manuals to document all changes for future reference and compliance.
This project showcases Fire Boar’s expertise in complex fire system upgrades and commitment to compliance and safety while ensuring minimal disruption to the client’s operations.
